While you were in a deep slumber the 2018 Winter Olympics officially started. Because this year’s Olympics are in Pyeongchang, South Korea the time change made the Opening Ceremony air live at 6 A.M. EST. Most normal people are asleep by then, you win this round morning people.
If you’re not a morning person and wondering what the heck even happened during the Opening Ceremony do not worry. We have you totally covered.
The 2018 Winter Olympics are already a historic event because South and North Korea walked out together. Athletes from both countries were joined together and walked in with a unified Koran flag. South Korean bobsledder Won Yun-jong and North Korean hockey player Hwang Chung-gum both held the Republic of Korea flag together.

Another big Korean moment happened too. South Korean President Moon Jae-in met and shook hands with Kim Yo Jong, North Korean’s leader Kim Jong Un’s sister.

America’s Olympic entrance was nothing short of hilarious. The American Olympic team marched in the Parade of Nations to “Gangnam Style”. Yeah, that viral song from PSY that peaked in 2012 was America’s opening song. To be fair “Gangnam Style” is easily the most popular South Korean song in America.
As athletes march at the Opening Ceremony, biggest cheer is when Psy’s Gangnam Style starts playing #pyeongchang2018

Team USA was ready for their close up. The countries were introduced in the Parad of Nations in alphabetical order based on the Korean alphabet.

Tonight I walked in the #OpeningCeremony and got to watch my old friend @Yunaaaa light the Olympic flame. Representing the USA is one of the greatest honors of my life and being able to do it as my authentic self makes it all so much sweeter 🇺🇸🏳️🌈🏆🌎❤️🔥 pic.twitter.com/ZypvWkUBjD

Do you remember the shirtless, well oiled hot athlete from Tonga at the 2016 Summer Olympics? Well, Pita Taufatofua is back and still shirtless, well oiled and hot. During the Summer Olympics, he was competing in Taekwondo. For the Winter Olympics, he’s competing in cross-country skiing. We stan a double threat.

Russia lost their appeal to participate in the Winter Olympics, but Russian athletes are still going to compete for the Gold. More than 150 Russian athletes are allowed to compete, they aren’t part of the doping scandal.
They were introduced as Olympic athletes from Russia and marched in with an Olympic flag, not a Russian one. The athletes also wore neutral uniforms that had no trace of the Russian flag or country’s colors.
CosmopolitanBermuda only has one athlete competing in the Olympics. He represented his country well by wearing Bermuda shorts in below freezing temperatures.
For the 3rd straight Winter Games, cross-country skier Tucker Murphy is #BER’s only athlete. No matter the season, #BER athletes usually wear their trademark shorts during Opening Ceremonies. #PyeongChang2018 | #OpeningCeremony pic.twitter.com/Vj4zpXYrZT

The team from Bermuda wearing actual Bermuda SHORTS in freezing weather for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics is the most iconic example of committing to your truth I’ve ever seen. Yaaaassssss queens.

But the real winners of the Opening Ceremony were the dancers who danced in a circle in the middle of the parade the ENTIRE time.

Forget the athletes – Those South Korean dancers in the middle are probably the fittest people in that stadium right now. #OpeningCeremony

The breakout star from the Opening Ceremonies wasn’t an athlete, political figure or dancer. It was the little kid who licked an NBC camera on air.
