KJ Apa Agrees That Archie Is A Terrible Musician On ‘Riverdale’

Archie Andrews takes himself Betty-Cooper-investigating-Jason-Blossom’s-murder levels of serious as a musician, but the actor who plays him — KJ Apa — is less than impressed with his character’s musical prowess.

In a new interview, the breakout Riverdale star gets candid about what he really thinks of Archie’s abilities, whether he is jamming with Josie & the Pussycats or strumming heartfelt songs at the high school talent show.

“I don’t know how to say it, but we’re not at the same level, you know what I mean?” Apa laughed to The Last.

“Somehow I have to say that in not a cocky way, but he’s a beginner. Also, the songs that he writes, I don’t think I would listen to them. I do not have the same taste in music as him.”

Apa himself prefers to listen to Van Halen and Third Eye Blind: “I listen to a bit of everything, but mostly classic rock and punk rock. I’m into harder stuff than Archie is.”

He is also a musician himself, so he has a foot to stand on. Apa even auditioned for the teen drama by playing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on electric guitar.

Still, there is one way in which Archie has an upper hand: “Singing is really uncomfortable for me,” he admitted to Teen Vogue. “It was definitely dipping out of my comfort zone.”
