Mac Miller Says He Is ‘Happy’ For Ariana Grande

In a recent interview on Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1 on Apple Music, Mac Miller stated that he has moved on from Ariana Grande–and is happy for her regarding her engagement to Pete Davidson.

Miller, a 26-year-old rapper, and Ariana Grande dated for two years and confirmed their split in May. However, the exes remain on good terms. In an Instagram story following their breakup, Grande wrote regarding Miller: “This is one of my best friends in the whole world and favorite people on the planet. I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!”

Miller had a similar tone in his interview saying, “I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple.”

Shortly after the breakup became public, Grande began dating comedian Pete Davidson–who she became engaged to in June. Many speculated Miller may have been troubled the breakup with Grande as the week following the news of their split he was arrested for a DUI. The rapper was arrested in the San Fernando Valley after he drove into a utility pole and fled the scene in his Mercedes-Benz. However, Miller has called the accident “the best thing that could have happened” as it shook him out of his self-destructive behavior and pushed him to better himself. “I needed that. I needed to run into that light pole and literally have the whole thing stop” Miller said.

Miller said many fans have assumed he has “been on the Internet” following Grande’s relationship with Davidson after Miller and Grande’s split. However, Miller directly stated that was not the case. He said he has taken a step back from things and focused on his career. Regarding the relationship drama, Miller said: “it just all seemed kind of unimportant you know.”

Regarding his reaction to Grande’s upcoming nuptials to Davidson, Miller struck a charming cord not often seen from exes, saying “It’s all positive energy. I am happy for her and [the fact that she’s] moving forward with her life, just as I’m sure she is with me.”

Mac Miller’s new album, Swimming, will be released August 3rd.
