On July 24 news broke that Demi Lovato was hospitalized for a drug overdose. It was initially reported that the singer overdosed on heroin, but now it’s unconfirmed what Lovato was taking.
Lovato’s backup dancer Dani Vitale has broken her silence on her friend’s relapse. She posted a statement on Instagram about Lovato and why she wasn’t with her during her overdose.
“I care about Demi just like all of you do. I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance,” Vitale wrote on Instagram.
“I was not with Demi when the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me just as she does to all of you,” she continued. “Like all of you, I have nothing but love in my heart for her.”
Then the backup dancer encouraged fans to stay positive and be a loving fanbase.
“There is no need for any negativity towards the ones who care about Demi at this time,” she wrote. “There is too much if it in this world as it is. I know you’re all feeling lost without her at this moment in time. Remember that you have always been a community of Lovatics who LOVE. Please remember that when you take out your phones and start typing. Remember that we all love her more than we can ever put into words. Please continue to send her love during her recovery.”
Vitale turned the comments off on her post, which is more than appropriate given the situation.
Vitale isn’t the only one of Lovato’s friends to speak out about her apparent overdose. Her friend Matthew Scott Montgomery broke his silence on his best friend’s overdose on his Instagram on July 29.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult few days, and this year has easily been the hardest I’ve ever experienced,” he wrote on his Instagram. “I couldn’t figure out what felt weirder–posting or not posting about this.”
Montgomery then went on to talk about Lovato’s recovery in the hospital and how she will be missing the final shows of his play Dead Boys.
“I will miss hearing my best friend’s laugh, maybe my favorite sound in the world in the audience for these final shows as she continues to recover,” he wrote. He then dedicated the last few shows to Lovato.
He also turned the Instagram comments off.
Her representatives released a statement saying that she is stable and awake and to respect the families privacy. Since then the public has only heard the 911 call and the story of how her assistant found her unconscious in her bed.
