Here are some good (and valid) reasons why women fake it in the sack. Men, take note!

I’ll admit I have watched the show, Teen Mom, more than once. While I was initially drawn in by my curiosity, after watching only a few episodes I found myself feeling really bothered by the show’s drama. I felt like I was watching a documentary that could be compared to Maury.

While some might disagree, I think the show glorifies teenaged mothers and I’m bothered by the fact that MTV is capitalizing on the misfortune of people, especially young women, that have made such a monumental mistake. MTV has been heavily criticized for exactly this reason. On January 17, MTV released a soundtrack of songs by up and coming artists that have been played on Teen Mom. From now until June 17, the proceeds from the soundtrack will go towards the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. While I think it’s great that MTV will be donating to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, I truly believe this is a publicity stunt by and I see this as MTV’s attempt to redeem itself for exploiting the horrible situations the Teen Moms are in. Reports have been circulating that an 18 year-old Sarah McKinley from Oklahoma shot and killed a man who was trying to break into her home. If you’ve read the story already, you know that her husband tragically died on Christmas Eve leaving her with three month-old son. It’s a terrible story, yes. And should get a high five for shooting a man who was coming after her and her baby with a 12-inch hunting knife? Absolutely! I doubt any of the girls on Teen Mom would have the sense to hide in a bedroom with two guns and barricade the door with a couch…all while feeding their baby a bottle. Sadly, we’re about to burst your bubble.

If you haven’t yet watched the news report, do so here and then let me address one tiny issue. Does anyone else think the picture of McKinley’s husband featured in the story is a little…off? He resembles a (fully-grown, bearded) member of The Bee Gees, and the photo was definitely not taken any time in the past 25 years. Let’s review really quickly: McKinley is 18; her husband was 18 in…like…1970.

A little internet sleuthing reveals that Mr. McKinley, who passed away just a couple weeks ago, was in his late 50s. He married Sarah two years ago when she was 16.

Let’s be honest here, I’m a college student, so I’m not going to watch 60 Minutes (unless I catch the end of it because I’m waiting for Big Brother to come on). I’m going to fill my DVR with trash, just like I do with my body, mind and garbage can.

These shows are 100% guilty pleasures that I would NEVER admit to watching ALL THE TIME.  If someone walked in on me watching any of these shows, I would probably pull the whole, “OH THIS OLD SHOW?? I JUST HAVE IT ON FOR BACKGROUND NOISE! I SWEAR!”

MTV’s reality explosions, “Sixteen and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom,” sparked controversy and debate around the nation. Leading to speculation, judgment and even, at times, envy, these shows offered America a small glimpse into the lives of young, teenage mothers. But take away the lights, the camera, and the millions of viewers and wonder what it would actually be like to go through senior year of high school with a baby bump. Would you feel anxious and excited or alone and scared? Would your family and friends support you or leave you and your growing belly behind? Gaby Rodriguez, a student at Toppenish High, took it upon herself to find out the answers to these riveting questions.

With a looming senior project ahead of her, Gaby Rodriguez, a 17-year-old “A” Student, decided to fake her own pregnancy as a social experiment. Spending 6 ½ months of her senior year with a wire mesh and cotton quilt belly, Gaby tried to understand the stereotypes and rumors that go along with teenage pregnancy. She took careful notes of what was said not only to her face, but also behind her back. Only a handful of people knew the truth about her charade, including her best friend, boyfriend, mother and principle. And the latest in completely expected and not at all shocking news? Teen Mom ‘s Jenelle Evans headed to rehab this week (read all about it here) to get away from all the stress of her life and learn how to cope.  Not that she doesn’t have anything she’s rehabilitating from, that is. Her trip to rehab comes right after Evans pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, but apparently Evans has been clean for weeks now and just needs some time to get her priorities in order.

Right.

If anyone has ever seen an episode of Teen Mom, it’s probably no surprise that Evans ended up in rehab. The girl couldn’t stop partying to take care of her own kid, got arrested with drugs on her and stole from her mom to take a road trip with her freeloading boyfriend. Well, it was only a matter of time. A mere 3 weeks after watching our Teen Moms chat it out with Dr. Drew at the end of the first season of Teen Mom 2, teen dad Jo Rivera (who, as you may remember, called ex-girlfriend Kailyn a dumb slut) has officially launched his rap career. And there’s a video to prove it.

Now I’m not going to say it’s a horrible disgrace to the english langauge, or that it offends every sense...I’ll let you be the judge for yourself.

But, just in case you are wondering, here’s a preview:

“Now when you done gettin’ your pretty hair and toes done, I come and get ya, spend a little do’ and time with you.”

“I know you got a lot of dudes tryin’ to wife you.”

Groundbreaking song writing, right?

I got to give homeslice some props, though; I mean at least he’s doing it on his own. It seems like every time another reality show star graces our TVs a hyper-produced single (or cheesy clothing line, ghost-written book, or club appearances) is sure to follow. Jo’s song may not be good, but at least it’s true to who he is. And who knows, if for some reason this is his Rebecca Black moment, well, at least we can rest easy knowing little Isaac will be well taken care of.
