2018 is here and while we may have received the worst welcome over, what with the bomb cyclone, at least we have the 75th Golden Globes to look forward to. Guests and nominees will gather in constricting but majestic outfits to celebrate the achievements of the past year’s films, off and on-screen. Last year, most of the attention was on Moonlight and La La Land, but this year there appears to be a more even playing field. Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, and Molly’s Game have received multiple noms and we’ll be waiting to see who wins Best Actor or Best Actress in a Motion Picture.
2017 was a tumultuous year in film, among other industries, when tons of victims came forward to shed light on how sexual assault runs rampant within the field. Because of this, celebrities are reportedly prepared to wear black to this year’s Awards to show their solidarity for victims and the #Metoo campaign. This is especially pivotal because Casey Affleck was controversially awarded Best Actor last year and The Weinstein Company has been a frequent host of the Golden Globes after-party.
This year will be a show of firsts. Simone Garcia Johnson, the daughter of the Rock, will be the first Golden Globe Ambassador, shedding the title of Miss Golden Globe. She’ll be the one on the stage handing the statues to the presenters to give off to the award winners. Meanwhile, Facebook will be replacing Twitter in covering the red carpet. Let’s hope that no one trips or awards the wrong recipients. Tune in on Sunday!
