Rihanna Called Out Victoria’s Secret In Her ‘Vogue’ Cover Story

||

This morning we were all blessed with Rihanna‘s June Vogue cover, which also simultaneously announced that the singer was the magazine’s cover star. It makes sense why Rih’s piercing gaze is gracing the front of the iconic fashion magazine. She is the co-host for the Met Gala that is on May 7, successfully launched her own beauty line Fenty Beauty, puts on extravagant Fenty Puma fashion shows every fashion season and has a lingerie line dropping later this month.

The cover story is filled with insights into Rihanna’s current relationship, how turning 30 changed her perspective on life and how she manages to simply do it all and do it all so well. She talked about her upcoming lingerie line, Savage X Fenty that is launching on May 11. The campaign for Savage X Fenty features models of all shapes and sizes. One Instagram post declared that “X stands for ALL.”

Rihanna has been at the center of body shaming trolls before. Most recently trolls thought Rihanna was pregnant after her Grammys performance because she looked a little bigger. In May 2017 Barstool Sports called Rihanna fat for gaining weight and responded with a hilarious Gucci Mane meme. A little after that meme was posted a fan account posted a throwback video of Rihanna. Fans slid into the comments calling Rihanna fat so of course, she called the haters out in the comment section.

“You’ve just got to laugh at yourself, honestly. I mean, I know when I’m having a fat day and when I’ve lost weight. I accept all of the bodies,” she told Vogue. “I’m not built like a Victoria’s Secret girl, and I still feel very beautiful and confident in my lingerie.”

Victoria’s Secret has been criticized before for their lack of body diversity in their ads and at their annual fashion show. Ashley Graham has thrown shade at the brand for not having a plus-size angel. Graham has her own lingerie collaboration with Addition Elle and walks in their runway show almost every season, so there are plus-size lingerie models out there VS just isn’t hiring them.

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty’s 40 shades of foundation shook up the makeup world to start being more inclusive. Do you think Savage X Fenty will push Victoria Secret’s to begin catering to plus-size women?
