How Racist Tweets Are Tearing The Beauty YouTube World Apart

Beauty YouTubers’ and their fans are currently in a major feud right now over old racist tweets and videos.

The latest scandal involves Manny “MUA” Gutierrez, Nikita Dragun, Gabriel Zamora and Laura Lee. They are all accused of racism.

This whole thing started when Zamora shaded Jeffree Star, who also has a racist past.

Star’s racist past is nothing new to the beauty world. There are videos of him saying the N-word, comparing a black person to an ape and declaring that he wants to throw battery acid on a black woman to lighten her skin tone. It’s amazing he’s still getting jobs. Kim Kardashian recently got dragged for defending Star. He has apologized for his actions, but people have accused him of not being sincere and that he still uses the N-word.

So with that little racist history lesson under our belts, let’s dig into the drama.

All of the four beauty YouTubers who are being accused of racism used to be friends with Star. They had a falling out and they’ve been petty towards each other ever since.

All the new drama started when Zamora posted a photo of himself with Lee, Dragun and Gutierrez giving the bird to the camera on August 12. The photo was captioned, “b**ch is bitter because without him we’re doing better.” The tweet has been deleted, but has been screenshot and posted several times since.

After the photo was posted, people assumed the four were shading Star. Star recently just talked about his ex-friends in an interview. No names were dropped, but you know it’s obvious.  Zamora then confirmed that the tweet was shade and tweeted, “Imagine stanning a racist? I could never.”

Then he got into it with a Star fan who tried to defend Star’s apology. Zamora said that Star is still a racist despite his apology.

“Every time I was around him, he would constantly say racist things about black people but would validate it by saying, ‘I’ve had so much black d**k I can’t be racist,'” Zamora tweeted. “Once I realized it was REAL racism, I realized I couldn’t be friends with him.”

I don’t know what “REAL racism” is as opposed to FAKE racism, but I digress.

After Zamora’s Twitter exchange Star stans came for him and the three other YouTubers and it hasn’t been pretty. Star’s fans dug around in Zamora, Lee, Dragun and Gutierrez’s Twitters and found old tweets of theirs using racist language.

These tweets have been deleted but the beauty world has provided ample receipts.

Oh, the hypocrisy.

Lee has taken the biggest hit out of the four beauty vloggers. She also has the most racist tweets. Not saying that they all shouldn’t be suffering repercussions, just stating facts.

She lost a staggering 300,000 YouTube subscribers in a week, and all of her sponsors dropped her. She posted an apology video and tweet. People are mocking her video for being fake and insincere.

After the old tweets got exposed, Zamora made his Twitter private. He has since deleted his tweets with the photo and arguing with the Star fan.

Zamora has since issued an apology for his use of the N-word.

“I’m not asking to be forgiven, I just want to apologize to anyone offended by it,” Zamora wrote. “Here’s some more context to it if anyone would like to read: I made an ignorant tweet when I was younger and used the N word in the way songs and videos used it like talking to my friend. There’s no excuse for me to use it but I can say no one had ever explained the use of that word until that day to me.”

Then he apologized to his friends for dragging them into this mess when they didn’t start it. He also apologized to the beauty world and his fans.

“I want to apologize to Manny, Laura and Nikita as my first tweet that included the photo of us was never ok’d by them,” he wrote. “The photo was supposed to be funny and I took it upon myself to tweet it with text they didn’t know I was going to say. I acted out of emotion and pettiness and it was solely my tweet and my words and no one else’s.”

“Most importantly, I want to apologize to the beauty community and my own social family,” he continued. “I am upset with myself that I created negativity in a world that doesn’t need anymore hate.”

He then tweeted an apology to Star.

The reason why Star is getting an apology is a little jarring. Just because Zamora got exposed for old racist tweets, doesn’t undo Star’s past and possibly recent racist behavior.

He then made a YouTube video apologizing for his past use of the N-word and explaining the situation. The video is nearly 49 minutes long and Zamora addresses everything.

In his video, he said he called Star and got his opinion on the matter. Zamora also announced that he has decided to cut ties with Gutierrez.

“There is a certain individual that I need to cut out of my life because it’s always just been toxic,” he stated. “A lot of the negativity around [me] and around [my] friends has been due to this one person. They’re the same factor in all these negative situations around [my] life…and that’s Manny.”
