Charles Melton is a newcomer in Hollywood. The young actor got his big break on CW’s Riverdale playing Reggie Mantle. He didn’t always play Reggie though. In season one of the show Ross Butler played the Riverdale football jock, but due to a scheduling conflict, he was replaced by Melton. Seriously, we aren’t mad about it.
Previously, Melton appeared on Glee and American Horror Story. But way before he decided he wanted to be an actor he was playing football at Kansas State University. He dropped out after two years and signed to DNA Models. Quickly Melton turned his efforts to acting and the rest in history.
Recently Melton was in hot water for tweets from 2012 that are body shaming and fatphobic. He tweeted things like, “Fat chicks need to understand that wearing yoga pants is a privilege, not a right,” and “big boobs don’t count if you’re fat..#facts.”
Since his multiple fatphobic and body shaming tweets went viral, he deleted them and apologized. “I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behavior,” he said in a statement.

It was rumored that the two Riverdale co-stars were more than just friends. On October 7, 2018, Camila Mendes posted a photo of Melton kissing her on the forehead with the caption “mine.”

Even though the post doesn’t explicitly say the two are dating, fans are assuming they are. It also doesn’t help that their famous friends jumped in the comments confirming for them. Cazzie David commented a few ship emojis with, “it’s a ship, cause we ship,” Lili Reinhart commented a tulip emoji and KJ Apa wrote,”Are you guys dating?”

When Melton was under fire for his fat-shaming tweets he called Mendes to apologize. Mendes is notoriously body positive. “He was devastated—he felt really sorry about it and he called me personally and, you know, he said, with everything that I stand for, he said ‘I’m really sorry,'” she told Access.
