7 Places Kanye West Probably Was Instead of the Grammys

If you didn’t watch the Grammys last night, you missed a lot of performances, but — surprisingly — not a whole lot of awards. Even though the Grammys are supposed to be an award show, the program was more about throwing random artists together for collaborations, finding ways for Nicki Minaj to “out-Gaga” Gaga and honoring the fabulous Whitney Houston. When they actually presented someone with an award it was kind of confusing.

One of the first honors given out was for Best Rap Performance, which Kanye West and Jay-Z won for their song “Otis.” But neither of them were there to accept the little golden statue. Excuse me, what?! Ok, Jay-Z did just have a baby. And if I had a baby this adorable and a wife that beautiful I would probably skip out on the Grammys, too.

But where was Kanye?! He was actually nominated for two different albums – his solo project, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne, his collaboration with Jay-Z. All said, he won four awards last night, bringing his career Grammy total to 18. 18! We would think Kanye would want to be there to rub that in everyone’s face. So where was the elusive Mr. West? Naturally, we have a few highly-probable theories on the matter. Read More »

Did You Know These 12 Actors Have Won Grammys?

The Grammy Awards, also known as music’s biggest night, will air live on February 12…this Sunday! From the crazy fashion outfits to the latest concoction Lady Gaga will use to make her entrance, anything can happen. This award ceremony is unique because it is solely dedicated to contributions in the music industry. And while most of the winners are, well, musicians, there are a select few that take on double duty.

In honor of the 2012 Grammys, here’s a list of 12 actors who have brought home the coveted Gramophone. Read More »

Chris Brown Headlining Grammy Takeover Sweepstakes

Awards season is here! The Golden Globes are tonight and the Grammys are less than a month away. Needless to say, we’re totally excited over here. The Grammys are a more casual awards show featuring fierce outfits and stellar performances. They’re always a lot of fun to watch, and I am pumped about the first announced performers like Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, and Nicki Minaj. It’s definitely going to be a great show.

However, I’m not too thrilled with the idea of Chris Brown headlining a week of Fuse TV’s Grammy Takeover Sweepstakes. This month long contest will send a winner and a friend to the 2012 Grammy Awards. They’ll also get to walk the red carpet and attend the official Grammy after party. Plus every week, they’re giving away a Grammy Nominee Music Pack. The sweepstakes is really cool, and it’s great that regular people like us have a chance to go to the Grammys and get all kinds of awesome perks. But they’re having these Takeover Mondays featuring nominated artists, and Chris Brown is the first one up. Read More »

Grammy Fashion: The Hits, The Misses and The Exposed Body Parts

So, the Grammys happened last night. At least I think they did. I mean, did anyone actually receive an award? Oh wait. Yes. Esperanza Spalding did, much to the chagrin of Justin Bieber’s super fans. Watch your back, girlfriend. They’re coming to get you!

Not that I’m complaining. It was the perfect show for me. I had brownies, wine, amazing performances from beginning (Divas, what?) to middle (I’m talking to you Cee-Lo) to end (Rihanna, you take my breath away), and of course, the kind of fashion that only happens when you put a lot of creative (and rich) people in one room.

Oh, and it had John Legend. Looking sex-dream dreamy. And that’s a fact.

So let’s do what we do best and break down the fashion hits and misses of the evening. Let the judgment begin!

CollegeCandy’s Having a Grammy Party!

Whatcha doin’ Sunday night?

You better not say “studying,” because we know that’s about as realistic as Heidi Montag having a successful singing career.

If you’re like us, you’ll be ordering in some Thai food, cracking a bottle slapping a bag of wine, and catching the Grammys. And if you’re already doing that anyway, why not do it with us?

OK, not actually with us – our NYC studio apartment is only big for so many people (read: 2…and that’s pushing it), but online with us. We’ll have our laptops out and will be live blogging the entire show, from Christina Aguilera to Eminem and everyone in between. As always, we’ll be unusually cruel to the fashion train-wrecks and drooling over dapper dudes in suits (with guitars!!).

The show starts at 8 p.m. EST/PST on CBS, so DVR the Kardashians, grab your laptop (or iPad, lucky biatch) and watch with us.

Oh, and if you wanna join in and voice your own opinion (on whatever crazy sh*t Gaga is wearing, to celebrate a successful Christina performance, or when Kanye inevitably does/says something stupid), just hop on Twitter and either Tweet @cclive blog or include the hashtag #GrammysCC and you can really join the party.

See ya tomorrow night!

Leave Christina Alone Already!

So I think we all know what this post is going to be about.

On Sunday I sat down with my plate of nachos to watch the opening of the best commercials of the year the Super Bowl, only to find Christina Aguilera messing up the words to the national anthem. I had a good chuckle, and then went to get some potato skins. By half time, I was over it. But the rest of the world, apparently, was not. So I’m just going to say what needs to be said.

LEAVE. THE. GIRL. ALONE. AND. GET. OVER. IT.

Christina is not the first public figure to mess up the Star Spangled Banner, and she won’t be the last, either. In 1990 at a Padres’ game, Roseann spit and grabbed her crotch as she sang. R. Kelly butchered this sacred song at a boxing match. And in 2003 at Fenway Park, Michael Bolton actually stopped singing to consult his notes during the very same part that Christina messed up. Put This On Your iPod: Mumford and Sons’ Sigh No More

[Sarabeth here, back with some more jams to add to your iTunes library! Every Wednesday, I'm bringing you music suggestions - could be something new, old, hugely popular or fairly unknown -  to awesome-ify your  collection.]

When the Grammy nominations were released for this year, I was thrilled to see that Mumford and Sons were up for best new artist and best rock song for “Little Lion Man.” (Fingers crossed they’ll beat the Biebs!) I heard that song last year on the radio and I instantly loved it so much I ran (yes, ran) home to download their album, Sigh No More. And let me tell you, and every track is better than the last. So more than any other, this is one album I just had to share with you all.

About the Band: Mumford and Sons are a folk rock band from London consisting of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, “Country” Wilson Marshall, and Ted Dwane. Sigh No More is their debut album, and they have been featured on multiple shows like Grey’s Anatomy, the short-lived Lone Star, and the UK Skins. Read More »
