The big night is finally here! On Sunday Brangelina and Jennifer Aniston will be reuniting for the first time since the big divorce the best actors and actresses in Hollywood will be showered with big gold statues and lots and lots of praise.

Yes, my friends, it’s time for the Oscars!

Who is going to win? Who is going to cry? How hot is Hugh Jackman gonna look? And who is going to wear something totally ridiculous?

Since we have nothing better to do on a Sunday night (and since there is really nothing better than talking sh*t about celebrities/staring at Hugh Jackman for 4 hours), CollegeCandy will be ordering in some Pad Thai and watching every last minute.

Of all the award shows (what are there, 74?), the Grammys is my absolute fave. Unlike the Emmy Awards or the Oscars that get really boring after awhile, the Grammys are chock full of awesome performances from the best artists of the year. It’s like my dream concert made better by the fact that I get to watch the whole thing on my couch… with a tube of cookie dough.

And last night was no disappointment. Well, maybe the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna sitch – lord knows I would have loved to see her performing. Coldplay and Jay-Z? Katy Perry? Al Green and Justin Timberlake? Our homegirl, Jennifer Hudson?

I was dancin’ in my living room. Yes, cookie dough in hand.

And the red carpet wasn’t too shabby, either. It definitely kept me on my toes. I don’t know what it is about this particular award show, but people really like to think outside the box with their fashion choices. I saw way too many origami-inspired dresses, not to mention the weird thing that Paris Hilton decided to sport. And the guys weren’t much better. I mean, I know Coldplay was performing but did they have to wear those costumes all night? You didn’t see Katy Perry rocking the sparkley Chiquita Banana outfit on the Red Carpet…

For those who once tried to rock, we still salute you

Let me just start out by saying that I didn’t care for the movie Juno. It got progressively better towards the end, yes, but for much of the movie, the writing was absolutely appalling. After the exchange with the convenience store clerk at the beginning of the film, I had to get an usher to help me find my eyes because they had rolled clear out of my head. Juno is hip, Diablo, I get it, please stop beating me over the head with those million dollar shoes you didn’t end up wearing.

That being said, her writing isn’t why I dislike Diablo Cody as a whole. It’s also not her vomitously rebel-cutsie name, although it does make me cringe a little bit every time I hear it. Like when it was announced at the Oscars. For winning best screenplay.

Admittedly, my dislike is partially rooted in that Cody reminds of the girl who is always at the coffee shop, reading Kurt Vonnegut and making me feel intensely uncool. “That girl” also has all these esoteric tattoos and an inexplicable haircut that I would never grow the balls to attempt. Cody seems a little more approachable than “that girl”, however, which is a point in her favor. Read More »

As my friends and I gathered in my living room with drinks and dinner last night to watch the Oscars, we all recognized a very obvious fact: We were not gathered to actually watch the awards. In fact, none of us cared that much about who won anything. (especially not at the tipsy end of the evening). The truth is that we just wanted to see what everyone was wearing. We wanted to either rip them apart or drop our jaws in jealousy. And so that’s what happened.

There weren’t as many atrocities as I had secretly hoped for last night. I always kind of want Cameron Diaz to show up in a trash bag and slippers. But hey, lets face, she’d look like a babe even in that. I guess what I’m trying to say is that no one gave me nightmares last night.
